Week 12: Reading Diary Pt. B

This is the story of eunuch! I didn’t realize that was a word really until I read a script of a classmate’s in another class last semester. I think he had the best script in the class, and I though a eunuch was so intriguing of a character, and it still is. I also love the story of Mankanaka. I’m a vegan, and I can only dream of bleeding green one day instead of red. Hahaha, just kidding. The next story of Rishyashringa makes me think of the upcoming Daniel Radcliffe and Juno Temple film titled Horns. By the way, can’t wait to see that film. I think it’s great that Hanuman is in this story as well as the Ramayana. It really ties them together and makes me able to visualize a world in which they both took place much easier. And then we end with another love story. This epic certainly has a lot!

Week 12: Reading Diary Pt. A

I don’t think I’ve ever gambled my siblings away. That’s definitely a new one. One thing I’ve noticed about this story is that a lot of characters have names starting with the same letters. I’m always reading and then there’s a wave of characters with names all starting with one letter and then once I’m sort of over that shock to my senses, another waves comes with a new letter. It’s really annoying, and kind of a terrible thing to do to your reader. I really love how Damayanti was still able to recognize Nala even though there were a bunch of Gods wearing his face. Their love story is really great. I’m enjoying the love stories in this Indian epic much more so than the Ramayana. And on top of it all, they tend to have happy endings! I’m a sucker for those.

Week 11: Famous Last Words

It’s November 1st, which means it is National Novel Writing Month! Fifty thousand words in thirty days. It’s going to be a long month. I’m going to be working on my novel, a couple short stories for the PWSA anthology, my TV show pilot, and my final script. Thankfully, I’ve just got a couple more assignments and then I’ll be done with this class, so I’ll have plenty of time to concentrate on my writing.
The project I’m most excited for right now is my final script. It’s about a girl who goes on a date with a guy she met online and has to keep her raging vegan tendencies on the D.L. so as to not ruin the date. It’s a script I think I’m going to have a lot of fun writing. Plus it’s the shortest of my projects, so that’s promising!
As for the rest of my life, there’s not much going on. My writing is going to be my life for the entirety of this month. So I guess you could say I’m officially in a relationship with my laptop.  Too bad it can’t buy me dinner.
I’m caught up on all my shows, which is awesome! Although they might have to go on hiatus so I can make sure I get all my writing done. I say this, but I know in my heart that I’m not going to not watch my shows. I’ll watch them, and I’ll enjoy the break!

Xena is doing a bit better. She’s still incredibly shy, but she’s been getting up on the couches, which is quite the accomplishment! We were worried she’d never climb on the furniture. She still hides under my roommate’s bed, though. It’s really freaking annoying because she hides under there and doesn’t come out unless you drag her out. She’s also picked up the nasty habit of chewing up shoes. Goodbye flip flops, you will be missed.

Here's a couple pictures of Xena. She doesn't like to hold still for pictures, though, so they're a little blurry. She's a shy punk, but I love her! She's a sweetheart.

Week 11 Storytelling: Goddess Help Me Write This Paper

Operation write my final essay has officially begun. In case you’re new to my blog, you should know that I am currently one essay away from graduating. And here I am telling all of my readers about said essay instead of actually writing it. Oh senioritis, why must you afflict me so?
What’s worse is that it’s for my capstone so I literally need it to pass the class and to be able to graduate. It’s not even a hard topic, but it’s so difficult because I don’t want to write anything. My major is Professional Writing and I have to write a 20-page paper on any topic that involves writing. Ironically, I could write about not wanting to write. I won’t though because I think my professor was born before the invention of sarcasm and laughter.
Anyway, I have my topic and I know what I want to write, but I just can’t. Some call it writer’s block, but I call it my stupid brain wanting me to join the McDonald’s workforce instead of graduating. Yes, my brain has it out for me. Friends have told me I’m crazy, but I know my brain wants me to fail at everything in life. But I have a plan that will solve all of this!
I’m going to invoke the powers of Saraswati, the goddess of words and writing. I figure she can be my own personal muse for this essay. Since I can’t seem to be able to do this alone, perhaps she’ll be able to help.
I’ve already got all the ingredients for the invocation. I’ve got some sage, a little bit of all four elements, a ceremonial knife, and tons of candles. I’ve seen The Craft like 50 times, and if seeing them invoke the spirits as many times as I have has taught me anything it’s how to summon up some magic. I mean, if I can’t invoke Saraswati then I don’t know who can because no one has seen that movie as many times as I.
Yes, I realize that I am using The Craft as my encyclopedia for all things invocation involved, but I don’t really give a damn. It’s a brilliant film inspired by real life and real magic. Everything in that film is real, you guys.
So I’m signing out now to go invoke my future muse. If it doesn’t work I’ll be back online immediately to write up a hate post on my. If it works, however, then I will see you all tomorrow after I write up the most pristine final essay for class and ace my final semester of my undergrad. Ciao for now!

THE END.

Author’s Note: My inspiration for this retelling just same from Buck’s invoking of Saraswati at the beginning of his version of the Mahabharata. I was just thinking that I really could have used a goddess of words and writing during quite a few of my writing classes (my capstone included). I thought it would be fun to just do it in a blogging style, since I totally don’t get to blog enough. But that’s the gist of it. I just wanted to utilize the character of Saraswati in my own story.

Buck, William (1973). Mahabharata.

Week 11: Reading Diary Pt. B

They're quite clever building that escape route out of the house fire-trap, but I'm little concerned that the story just glazes over the six corpses they leave in the Pandavas' places. Like, shouldn't everybody be wondering who these corpses are? I feel like you can't just randomly have six corpses, they need to have come from somewhere. I don't think the characters in this story realize how babies are supposed to be made. There's the woman with the 100 children made in jars after she gives birth to a mass. Then two cups of butter into a fire? This story is so odd. I still love Krishna. Although, I'm not sure how I feel about him being an avatar of Vishnu mainly because Rama was a butthole.

Week 11: Reading Diary Pt. A

I need to start praying to Saraswati. Maybe then I'll be able to write everything I want to write and have tons of inspiration to boot! I really love Ganesha. It's so easy to find gorgeous pictures of Ganesha online, and I just love reading about him. So the ocean used to be milk before the Gods churned it into salt. That's an interesting story. Quite the prologue to the Mahabharata this time around. Buck certainly likes to add and lot to the original epics. So sad that Bhishma put the blind one down and just made Pandu king. Rude. Gandhari is such a sweetheart! She shares in her husband's blindness? That's some true love, but shoot! Pregnant with 100 sons? That's irrational. Nobody should ever have that many children. Ever.

Week 10: Famous Last Words

I think this week has been quite successful! Granted, I cannot say that it has been successful in any ways other than in the realms of procrastination. Such a large realm, I tell you. Easy to get lost in. This week I watched all 25 episodes of the amazing web series titled Carmilla. It sucked me in one night and did not release me until I was dead tired an all homework of mine was incomplete and due the next day. What can you do?
I went to sleep is what I did. I still feel like I wrote a great story for this week’s retelling. I’m really proud of it. I got to dork out a bit and write some King Arthur fanfic in a sense. No shame. Other than that, my writing has been womp this week. The third act of my TV show was not as good as my second act and I know it. Hopefully act four goes better but I know it will all be a big pile of crap until I finally print in out and edit it. Only then will it possibly reach it’s true potential. Aside from writing, I am finally fully caught up on Once Upon a Time and I wish I wasn’t. I hate where the show is now and I hate myself for still watching it. I’m about to finish catching up on this season of Supernatural and I tried to finish watching season one of The Night Shift (my literal obsession) but I can’t find episode seven! I’m in the midst of a true, living nightmare here. I need that episode. If anyone out there knows where to find that episode, please contact me because it needs to be in my life right now or I may very well die of separation anxiety. Anyway, until next week!
