Week 1 Introduction: A Wee Bit About Me

My name is Tia Martinez. I’m a Professional Writing major with minors in Psychology and Film & Media Studies. I love to read and write, and I took Mythology & Folklore a couple of semesters back and absolutely loved it. Here’s my final storybook I completed for M&F. It looks so old school to me now!
Anyways, I’m really excited for this semester. Not only do I get to write for this class, but I’m also in a film writing class and a TV writing class. I know, everywhere reading that sentence just threw up a little but I really do love to write. I’m also this semester’s president of the Professional Writing Student Association (PWSA). I would have said this year’s president, but I’m graduating in December!!! It’s been a long road and I am so ready for the exit, but until then I am going to work, work, work. I’m also going to try not to stress, stress, stress too much.
More about me: I work an overnight job, typically from 11pm to as late as 9am sometimes so online classes are my friend! Other than that, I tend to just eat, sleep, Netflix in my free time. Typical college student, I know. A couple of my favorite shows are Teen Wolf, Supernatural, Grey’s Anatomy, Faking It, Rookie Blue, Young and Hungry and SYTYCD. Oh, and American Horror Story.

Over break, I went on vacation with my family to Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. We drove, too. It was a long, trying vacation, but it was also a lot of fun! I got to see Astoria, Oregon where The Goonies was filmed, and Seattle, Washington. In Canada, we went to Victoria and Vancouver and it was amazing! The whole trip was awesome and it made me want to live up there forever! I can’t wait to go back.
As a final word, I'll discuss my pets. I have a really derp dog named Nova whom I tend to hate a lot nowadays (she likes to eat everything she isn't supposed to). I also have a bunny named Basil who is a total punk. He's just as bad as his sister; always crawling up into our laps and eating all the food. Here's a picture of them together. They're so cute!

  1. I took M&F a couple semesters ago as well and knew I had to take this class because I had enjoyed it so much so it's nice to know that I am not the only one. It definitely makes sense to me why your retelling was so great because you're a professional writing major! I actually love writing but will first to say that I am awful at it! Can't wait to read more of your stories this semester! I'm extremely jealous that you went to where the Goonies was filmed!! I LOVE that movie!! I also went to Seattle a couple summers ago and absolutely loved it! I hope you enjoyed your time there!

  2. Wow I'm so glad that you're a So You Think You Can Dance fan too! (and yes, I also loooove Ricky!) That's awesome that you're a professional writing major. I, myself, am not a huge fan of writing but I think people who are good writers and that also enjoy it deserve a huge kudos in my book. That's crazy that you're graduating in December though! Most of my friends are doing that as well, and they can't wait. It must be very bittersweet, but it'll be so nice to be done. I hope the rest of your semester goes well. (:

  3. What an amazing semester, Tia - I'm actually jealous! I really don't get to do much writing at all during the semester... but I get tons and tons of ideas for things I'd LIKE to write, since of course I am learning all kinds of things from all the Storybooks I get to read. And I know there are a few Professional Writing majors in these classes, so please let me know about any PWSA events that I can publicize in the class announcements. And I am so excited to see what you will do with your Storybook this semester... I just checked your favorites - you did find your way to the Paranormal: Ayodhya Files project... that's such a great example of how you can engage really intensely with the epic characters and themes, while blending contemporary characters and themes too. REINCARNATION: not only a powerful philosophical and religious idea, but a great tool for storytelling too! I hope this class can be a good contribution to your semester of writing!!!

  4. Honestly, you sound like such a cool person! I think your majors/minors are really interesting and I love that you love to travel! I spent my summer traveling all over China, so I can relate to your desire to go back to where you traveled. I actually traveled to Seattle a couple of summers ago and go to visit the space needle and take a cruise out of the city, it really is such a cool place!

  5. Hey Tia, nice to meet you. I agree, it is hard to believe that somebody could love writing as much as you do but there's nothing wrong with that. Especially with all the complaints about the current generation being brainwashed by technology! Anyways, back on track, I really enjoy watching Teen Wolf as well. Its a pretty cool show. I'm curious as to who your favorite character is on the show and what you think of the current season airing.

  6. Hi. It sounds like this is a great class for you, since you love writing so much. It's also nice that it's online - I have a weird schedule too so online classes are great! It's cool that you took Myth & Folklore and are back for more!

I would love to visit the Pacific Northwest, it looks so beautiful, but I've never been. Planning on getting up there sometime after graduation.

Love your dog and bunny! So cute! Mischievous, but cute!

  8. Hi Tia! Nice to meet you! I am also graduating this semester, and I have such a vague idea of what will happen after graduation. I really like the choice of online courses, even though I am still waiting for a response for job applications. I love the show Supernatural. I also just started American Horror Story, which is amazing so far. Good luck on the rest of the semester!!

  9. Hi Tia! It's so exciting you're almost done!!!! I have next semester before I can graduate. And it is so cool that you are so involved in writing! I could totally tell you were talented from reading your project for this week. You are amazing for holding a job with hours like that; I could never do it, props to you. Your animals are cute; they sound like characters and crazy but loveable.

  10. Congratulations on graduating in December! That's so exciting! I'm right behind you. My girlfriend really likes Teen Wolf, Faking It, and Rookie Blue, too, and she makes me watch them with her sometimes, so I'm pretty familiar. I used to have three rabbits named Oreo, Big Boy, and Sugar. It's really neat that you went to the Northwest and to Canada because I've always wanted to travel there. I like the way rain sounds when it pitter-patters on windows.

  11. Hey Tia! You major and the classes you are taking this semester seem really fun, but I have never been great at writing so not my thing. I also really love watching my shows on Netflix. I really like watching White collar, suits and many other shows. It is going to be great having you in this class and reading the stories you write.

  12. Hi Tia! Great to meet you. It’s always nice to meet the people whose stories you read! I’ve appreciated reading your stories, and I’m looking forward to reading more! That is unreal that you work an overnight job! I’m impressed that you have the ability to do that. That’s tough. I also think it’s really cool that you and your family travel!! My family loves to travel also, so I think it’s really important. Also, it’s always nice to meet someone who loves animals! I have a miniature golden doodle that is my best friend! Great job in the class so far!

  13. Hi Tia! Your blog layout is really cool and different from the other ones I have seen! I think your bunny and dog are absolutely adorable! I have a couple of dogs but I have never had any cool pets like that! It looks to me as though your two animal get along. If so, that is so cool! Well, good luck with your final semester!

  14. What I said on your storytelling definitely still applies here, your writing is enticing. I guess you have chosen the "write" (I like to think I'm puny) major. I'm a little jealous that you went to Astoria and got to see where the Goonies was filmed. That's one of my favorite movies of all time. What job do you work thats overnight? It also sounds like you have quite the handful with your two little rascals at home. I love pets but they also tend to get themselves into trouble. Hope all is going well.

  15. Tia, I looked over your storybook and you did a great job! Here's a link to mine from last semester - in case you want to check it out: Wild(e) At Heart (https://sites.google.com/site/wildeatheartsks/).

Your style is wonderful, and I really appreciate your sense of sarcasm. Keep up the good work!

Also, I like the funky background you have going on here. It's great!
